Becoming a truck driver is often the last thing people are willing to do for a living. Yet it’s one of the first things people think of when they become desperate and can’t find a job. It’s true some are natural born truck drivers, it’s in their blood, and they absolutely love it. Their grandfather did it, their father did it, all their cousins did it, but the facts are not everyone can or should become a truck driver. Yes, times are tough now, but before you run off to truck driving school out of desperation and get your CDL License, you’d better make sure this is what you really want to do.

Truck driving involves a lot more than just jumping into the driver’s seat and driving down the highway. It requires more than just going through a CDL Training program. Although the training can be tough, it may be the easiest part of your truck-driving career. In training, you may be able to make a few mistakes with no real consequences, but out on the road one mistake can cost you and possibly someone else’s life.

Either approach this career change whole-heartedly or don’t do it. If you start driving a truck strictly out of necessity, trust me you will be miserable. It’s hard to make yourself like something when you are already miserable.  So if you decide to give it a try, big mistake, it will try you. Therefore, it’s important to make certain that becoming a professional truck driver is what you want to do. If the answer is yes, go for it. Good luck on whatever your decision is, more importantly be honest with yourself.

If the answer is maybe or I’m thinking about it, you’d better do some serious soul searching and perhaps a little more research.
